A walk in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf borough

After our visit in Kurfurstendamm we went to the other side of town, still in the same borough though, the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, for some more walking and sightseeing. It’s a Sunday so many shops were closed but many people were out and about in the parks.

We arrived in Charlottenburg Palace, the biggest palace in Berlin dating back to the 17th century. It is heavily influenced by baroque and rococo architecture. I have also heard about the baroque style elegant gardens in its courtyards so I was quite looking forward to visit it. The Dutchman however didn’t want to go inside the palace and I can’t leave him outside as well. What to do? Oh well, there are things in life that you just have to compromise with.

So with that we walked further around the neighbourhood, then we took the U-bahn back to Mitte.

My friend Bubbles, whom I was travelling with in the Balkans, had a request that we stop over at Medjugorje. We got lucky because Medjugorje was on the way to Dubrovnik, Croatia, which is our next stop. Half an hour into our driving, we reached Medjugorje. Parking was not easy to find, but we struck lucky and found a space not too far away from the Saint James Church. Bangkok, Thailand: The Story Behind the Impressive Serpent Statue at Suvarnabhumi Bangkok International Airport

If you fly out from the new Bangkok ‘Suvarnabhumi’ International Airport, the huge, colourful and impressive mythical statue popular in Thai and Indian culture, the 3-headed serpent Naga (his name Vasuki) in a spectacular tug-of-war scene with its mid-section body wrapped around a stone, which is actually a mountain, and Vishnu one of the supreme deities in Hindu is sitting on top, will greet you as you finish immigration and step inside the airport’s duty free shopping area. You just have to stop and be dazzled by it. The whole installation is impressive and as I took pictures I wondered what the story is behind this scene. After much googling around, I found out that the statue is very famous in Hindu culture and religion. This legendary scene is called ‘Samudra Manthan’ in other words in English – the ‘Churning of the Ocean of Milk’.
