Brunch in Potsdam: Steak Tartare unexpected at Mecklenburger Backstuben

Dutchman and I were famished when we arrived in Potsdam. We haven’t had breakfast yet! So after parking the car underneath the big square facing Potsdam’s Brandenburg Gate that leads to the centrum, we didn’t lose time looking for a café restaurant. We came upon this bakery café called Mecklenburger Backstuben which I believe is a local chain of bakery cafés. They have set breakfasts available.

I wasn’t in the mood to figure out and translate what the set breakfasts are. Deutsch is related to Nederlands (Dutch language) and there are some words that come close to Dutch so when reading Deutsch I can somehow piece the words and sentences together and get the overall gist. But like I said, I was not in the mood. My goal was to find the best seating in the cafe. So I let the Dutchman order for me. Interestingly, he ordered the steak tartare (also known in Germany as ‘mett’ or ‘hackepeter’) breakfast set for us.

But, I don’t like raw meat... ?

So when the steak tartare breakfast set arrived I scooped the raw meat with my fork and placed it on Dutchman’s plate. Well this was of course after I took a photo, haha. My conscience did played a trick on me so I decided to taste it. Well, what can I say? It tasted really good!

If you like steak tartare and you are in Germany, try it here. My tongue did not lie. I do not like raw meat. I am picky when it comes to meat because I am not a red meat lover. But this was REALLY GOOD. 5 stars out of 5.

My friend Bubbles, whom I was travelling with in the Balkans, had a request that we stop over at Medjugorje. Bangkok, Thailand: The Story Behind the Impressive Serpent Statue at Suvarnabhumi Bangkok International Airport

If you fly out from the new Bangkok ‘Suvarnabhumi’ International Airport, the huge, colourful and impressive mythical statue popular in Thai and Indian culture, the 3-headed serpent Naga (his name Vasuki) in a spectacular tug-of-war scene with its mid-section body wrapped around a stone, which is actually a mountain, and Vishnu one of the supreme deities in Hindu is sitting on top, will greet you as you finish immigration and step inside the airport’s duty free shopping area. You just have to stop and be dazzled by it. The whole installation is impressive and as I took pictures I wondered what the story is behind this scene. After much googling around, I found out that the statue is very famous in Hindu culture and religion. This legendary scene is called ‘Samudra Manthan’ in other words in English – the ‘Churning of the Ocean of Milk’.
