Tea and Scones in Utrecht and Birthday Pizzas in Friesland

A weekend ago I brought the English afternoon tea to Blondine’s.
I bought scones and raspberry jam at De Bakkerswinkel, a lovely bakery and lunch place located at Wittevrouwenstraat in Utrecht. Blondine and I had lunch here 2 years ago, see here the blog entry: Utrecht’s secret--Tea, Scones, Clotted Cream and Jam
Unfortunately, they ran out of clotted cream so I rushed over to Albert Heijn to buy the not so stellar alternative—whipped cream. The Netherlands isn’t England so we do not have clotted creams stocked in our supermarkets and they are difficult to find over here as well.
For tea, I brought some Chinese Oolong and Japanese Green Tea, a gift I received from my sister who is based in Singapore when we saw each other last October-November in the Philippines. She is my tea supplier.
This year Blondine and I won’t be travelling together because she will be busy getting well. We normally do 1 transcontinental trip, 1 or 2 within Europe trips and some weekend or 1-day getaways in a year. Sadly, all these will not happen in 2013 =(
But once Blondine is well, hopefully the year after, our kick-off trip will be a trans-continental journey to fascinating Capetown, South Africa.

Wolvega, Friesland
In the same weekend, Dutchman and I went to the northern part of the country. It is our friend’s birthday. He turned 48.
We did not know what to give, well it is always difficult to give gifts to a man, especially to someone who is older and who has everything in life.
Nevertheless, since Dutchman and I will be dropping by at the De Bakkerswinkel to buy scones for my English afternoon tea with Blondine the next day, I did a last-minute birthday giftpack shopping as well in the store: Organic beer brewed in Utrecht, some Utrecht vintage-packed biscuits and chocolates.
So the idea for the birthday party was to make pizzas for everyone. You can even create your own pizza. Or order it from the birthday celebrant =) Cool huh!
