A quick stop and a peek at Castle de Haar in Utrecht

Last year at the end of November to early December, my old high school girl friend, Pinpin visited me in the Netherlands. We did Utrecht (read here) and then Amsterdam on a very rainy Saturday (read here, here and here). We also went to eat Dutch pancakes in the Lage Vuursche forest which I will post soon, and visited quickly, well actually we just took a peek, the Castle de Haar.

Pinpin wanted to see a castle, but we didn’t have enough time, so we just quickly dropped by. This castle is quite near to where I live.

Anyway, this blog entry is all about us and our pictures and very little to do with the castle, haha. Pinpin, this is for you!

My friend Bubbles, whom I was travelling with in the Balkans, had a request that we stop over at Medjugorje. We got lucky because Medjugorje was on the way to Dubrovnik, Croatia, which is our next stop. Half an hour into our driving, we reached Medjugorje. Parking was not easy to find, but we struck lucky and found a space not too far away from the Saint James Church. Bangkok, Thailand: The Story Behind the Impressive Serpent Statue at Suvarnabhumi Bangkok International Airport

If you fly out from the new Bangkok ‘Suvarnabhumi’ International Airport, the huge, colourful and impressive mythical statue popular in Thai and Indian culture, the 3-headed serpent Naga (his name Vasuki) in a spectacular tug-of-war scene with its mid-section body wrapped around a stone, which is actually a mountain, and Vishnu one of the supreme deities in Hindu is sitting on top, will greet you as you finish immigration and step inside the airport’s duty free shopping area. You just have to stop and be dazzled by it. The whole installation is impressive and as I took pictures I wondered what the story is behind this scene. After much googling around, I found out that the statue is very famous in Hindu culture and religion. This legendary scene is called ‘Samudra Manthan’ in other words in English – the ‘Churning of the Ocean of Milk’.
