Welcome to Cebu Filipino dinner at the Cafe Laguna
Yes, where else? At the Cafe Laguna (Garden Cafe) at The Terraces, Ayala Centre.
My parents picked us up in the airport and BrotherJ together with smart aleck nephew were waiting at Cafe Laguna. Whenever I/we arrive in the Philippines, the family always treats us to Filipino dinner or lunch outside the house (because my mother is not the greatest cook, haha) straight from the airport. This is the first thing we do as a family. Eat together =).
The family that eats together, stays together!
During events like these, Cafe Laguna has become a staple for us because they serve authentic Filipino food. When you live abroad far from the familiar fares that you know and grew up with, the hankering stays and grows (even if they are unhealthy) and reaches to a climax upon setting foot in the homeland. We eat here at least once or twice during my entire short vacation stay in the country.
This is what we ordered for dinner:
And these are our desserts:
Right now I am on my second leg of my Cebu trip. I have to admit that I suffered major stomach and bodily aches because of the food here. Filipino cuisine is not the healthiest cuisine out there. It is greasy and all about meat, meat, meat and more meat. My body is having a hard time accepting this. I became unwell, I became constipated, as well as very lethargic (the warm and humid weather also is to be blamed). Because of this, I made a drastic decision to stop eating at restaurants and put my hands at work in the kitchen. I bought lots of vegetables and cooked them for dinner at home. I can honestly say that I now felt much better.

This is what we ordered for dinner:
Sweet and sour fish, fish tinola soup, chop suey vegetables, crispy pata with atchara and soy sauce, fresh lumpiang ubod, fried chicken and calamares rings. Filipinos always pair these with white rice (or garlic rice).
And these are our desserts:
Puto bumbong (sticky rice) with coconut shavings, buko pandan with rice crispies and mango cream. A few of us ordered the same dessert. Cafe Laguna have lovely buko pandan and mango cream desserts. Do try them when you dine here.
Smart aleck nephew with SisterJ. I have missed the cheeky little boy so much!
