Dinner in a Refurbished Boat Restaurant in Amsterdam: Pont 13
Last summer (oh dear me, time fly so fast and it has only been 2 months!) I went out to dinner with Bru. As usual I am the one tasked to look for a cool restaurant, somewhere in Amsterdam of course. So to change the scenery, I searched somewhere outside the centre and something a little bit unique.
What do you think of a refurbished ferry boat turned restaurant?

Interesting history: The boat (Pont 13) was built in 1927 and was used as a ferry boat up to the end of the 1990's carrying passengers and motor vehicles across Het IJ river in Amsterdam. Afterwhich the boat was sold to a freight company and used as a cargo boat with a regular route to IJburg, East Amsterdam. Overtime it was found in Zaandam just north of Amsterdam being put on sale as an old piece of humongous metal. In 2005 Pont 13 opened its doors as a restaurant in the West Haven of Amsterdam.
Bru is coming with the bike, after all she lives in Amsterdam. So while waiting for her, I had my first glass of Chardonnay. It also gave me the opportunity to inspect the boat so I did my rounds.
This is at the back part of the boat (below pictures). Obviously, all the customers were sitting in the front terrace of the boat.

Now I loved how the renovation was done, maintaining the rustic feel and age of the boat but making it very cosy and artistic as well yet functional as a restaurant.

Bru just arrived, huffing and puffing from the bike ride, she said she got lost! Awww, poor girl!
We decided to sit outside on the front terrace where the sun is not clawing upon us. I just came back from my holiday in Greece for 2 weeks so bathing under the sun was not my idea for this dinner. Bru is also not a sun worshipper, luckily.
Fresh Seafood & Vegetable Dinner
This restaurant specialises on seasonal vegetables and produce, as well as locally sourced ingredients. Now Bru is just like me who adores vegetables and seafood so we were bent on ordering only vegetables and seafood for the evening. But first, she needs a drink. A glass of Chardonnay please, and a second one for me as well =).
Then came the first thing we ordered, Bread with Dukkah. Dukkah (or duqqa) is an Egyptian side dish made of herbs, hazelnut, spices and nuts. You basically dip the bread in the (extra virgin) olive oil and then the dukkah.
Next to arrive is the Artichoke Barigoule. The dressing was divine. We could have ordered another serving really. How do you eat this? Suck =)
Third to arrive was this plate of Seafood Antipasti goodness: Marinated Salmon, Vongole, Crab Claw, Mackerel, New Herring with pickles, Razor Clams and Lemon Mayonnaise. All I can say is, what a beautiful and delicious plate!
And the last to arrive was the Whole Grilled Fish of the day with Persillade and a Garden Salad side dish. This is soooo fresh. Ummm...
The dinner is not complete without capping this up with espresso but Bru wanted some oomph so she settled for a limoncello. Oh, I want that as well!
A very lovely outdoors dinner in Amsterdam, in a fresh environment and on the water. Very unique and very Amsterdam I should say. Our rating for this review: 4.2 stars out of 5 in my book.
Pont 13 is closed in the winter though and only accepts private parties/meetings, so do check their website for more information (only Dutch).
