Lunch at the Posh Harbour Club Amsterdam

The Harbour Club Amsterdam is one of the relatively new and swanky places to go, although for others they probably come here to be seen, and you’ll notice it right away with the type of crowd that comes here. This restaurant transforms into a club in the evening and have DJ’s turning the tables in every room whilst diners enjoy their meals. Even DJ’s in the toilet! Seriously. The restaurant hosts dinner concerts regularly as well.


Because of its out-of-the-way location, along the water somewhere in the industrial terrain of Amsterdam East, you will not quickly see tourists dropping by here. What you might find yourself in is rubbing elbows with BN’ers or Bekende Nederlanders (famous Dutch people, celebrities and the rich). If you are into this circle, this is your place.

So last July, Blondine and I had a long relaxing lunch here. Now Blondine and I don’t really care about these BN’ers, we might have bumped into them but may have not recognised them (ooops sorry!), but what we care about is enjoying ourselves in a very stylish place with good food where we can chat with each other to our heart’s content.

I have to say that this is one of the prettiest restaurants with an outdoor terrace and lounge area in Amsterdam. Perfect for the summer season, and even during the colder months as long as the weather is dry. There are outdoor heaters and plaids anyway that makes everything warm and cosy =)


A glass of chardonnay on a summer day is always a good idea to begin with.


We ordered the 2-course lunch meal of the day. Those freshly baked still warm bread were lovely.


Our antipasti or starter: Salmon Tartare


Our lunch main: Pike fish with potato puree and a side salad.


This is the DJ turn table inside the toilet! The restaurant tranforms into a club in the evening. I will try to convince the Dutchman to come here with me one time for dinner (and clubbing).


After lunch we moved to the lounge area on the water. It is very pretty and heavenly here. I loved the mix of beach, shabby chic, contemporary and country feel.


Cappucino for Blondine and Double Espresso for moi.


My review rating: 4.5 stars out of 5. I would come back here.

The Harbour Club has branches in Rotterdam, Scheveningen (The Hague) and Ibiza, Spain. I haven’t been to these branches yet, but who knows soon…?

My friend Bubbles, whom I was travelling with in the Balkans, had a request that we stop over at Medjugorje. Bangkok, Thailand: The Story Behind the Impressive Serpent Statue at Suvarnabhumi Bangkok International Airport

If you fly out from the new Bangkok ‘Suvarnabhumi’ International Airport, the huge, colourful and impressive mythical statue popular in Thai and Indian culture, the 3-headed serpent Naga (his name Vasuki) in a spectacular tug-of-war scene with its mid-section body wrapped around a stone, which is actually a mountain, and Vishnu one of the supreme deities in Hindu is sitting on top, will greet you as you finish immigration and step inside the airport’s duty free shopping area. You just have to stop and be dazzled by it. The whole installation is impressive and as I took pictures I wondered what the story is behind this scene. After much googling around, I found out that the statue is very famous in Hindu culture and religion. This legendary scene is called ‘Samudra Manthan’ in other words in English – the ‘Churning of the Ocean of Milk’.
