Samos, Greece: Another Day on Potami Beach and Cafe del Mundo

One of the things we love about the Greek Islands is being able to rent a scooter and drive to different beaches and towns. To us, this is what makes the Greek Isles attractive and quite unique compared to other summer holiday destinations in Europe. There is just this holiday magic feel when we are riding on a scooter, navigating through little whitewashed villages and medieval towns, driving along the rock cliffs, the rugged coastline and pristine beaches, and tasting the ocean breeze against my lips as it blows my hair across my sun drenched face.

The place seems to be always full of young day trippers who seem to be locals, either they are locals from Samos or local tourists from other parts of Greece. We actually felt like we are holidaying between the locals and Greeks tourists here, which I find quite nice, something different, and I guess exotic is another term that I would like to borrow. Not that the Greeks are exotics because they are Europeans, but I did not see a lot of blondes here (lots of dark hairy men!) and English-Deutsch-Nederlands and any of the Scandinavian languages were not spoken which comes in an avalanche in many other parts of Samos.

In Europe, going topless is VERY NORMAL. I went topless one time, maybe twice? Uh, I forgot already. It is not my thing  really so I have stopped going topless for the longest time I can remember.

The sea was quite rough that day but that did not discourage many beach goers who went in the water and challenged the waves.

The parasols and sunbeds were from Hippy’s Place, a lovely and truly hip cafe, bar, lounge and restaurant on the beach. This is a very relaxing and great place to hang out. If you are in Samos, do drop by here in the north eastern part of the island for an afternoon of beaching at Hippy’s Place in Potami.

After beaching Dutchman and I went to this other hip Mexican-inspired cafe, bar, lounge and restaurant located along the main road, just in front really of Potami Beach. We saw this place the first time we were here at Potami and we promised to try it out the next time around. The cafe is very pretty decorated in warm colours, and I must say, very inviting as well =)

It is impossible to miss this cafe if you are in Potami.

We figured we will have pre-dinner drinks here, enjoy the place and the late afternoon as well. They play some cool music so that is added bonus to our relaxation agenda. After a little bit of checking around where we will settle down, Dutchman and I chose this cosy somewhat private area with drapes and lots of pillows.

We ordered white wine and a lemon drink. We have learned to love the lemonades in Greece. They are tangy, light and refreshing, just the perfect drink for a very warm late summer afternoon on an island like Samos.

Did you know that Samos Island produces its own wine? If you come to Samos, you should try the Samos Sweet (Muscat) White Wine as aperitif or digestif. Add in an ice cube or two please, but the one on the picture is a normal Samos White Wine.

A very lovely and relaxing place to stop by for a drink after an equally great afternoon time at Potami Beach.
