Family Time at the Lapu-Lapu Shrine in Mactan Island, Cebu

After our yummylicious SUTUKIL late lunch, we decided to go to the Lapu-Lapu Shrine which is beside the sutukil restaurants. Some of the family members surprisingly have not been here so they want to have a look. I have been here though several times.

Now my smart-aleck nephew was quick as a fox to snatch a hat from the handicraft stall near the sutukil restaurants and declared that IT IS HIS. The father (my brother) was left with no choice to haggle but to pay the smiling vendor. He just made an easy sale =)

Here at the sutukil restaurants you can also find vendors selling native Cebuano products. Cebu is known for its sweet mango among other things, i.e. lechon (whole grilled pig), shell craft, guitars and many more.


My parents had a shell craft business when I was little. I actually remembered very little about it except that my brother managed to put a little shell into his nose and it got stuck. You can imagine my mother being harassed and all, haha. 


You know this sign ‘Palihog dili pa istambayan’ means PLEASE NO LOITERING/HANGING AROUND/STANDING BY/WAITING. But what did this man exactly do? lol! Anyway, those fruits are mangosteen.

It was low tide as you can see.... this area is filled with water of course during high tide, so just try to use your creative imagination.

Dad with Lapu-Lapu who killed the invading Spaniards during the Battle of Mactan in 1521. Yes, Lapu-Lapu killed Ferdinand Magellan. I do wonder if Lapu-Lapu really looks like this statue. I mean, he looks really hot, don't you think?

My friend Bubbles, whom I was travelling with in the Balkans, had a request that we stop over at Medjugorje. Bangkok, Thailand: The Story Behind the Impressive Serpent Statue at Suvarnabhumi Bangkok International Airport

If you fly out from the new Bangkok ‘Suvarnabhumi’ International Airport, the huge, colourful and impressive mythical statue popular in Thai and Indian culture, the 3-headed serpent Naga (his name Vasuki) in a spectacular tug-of-war scene with its mid-section body wrapped around a stone, which is actually a mountain, and Vishnu one of the supreme deities in Hindu is sitting on top, will greet you as you finish immigration and step inside the airport’s duty free shopping area. You just have to stop and be dazzled by it. The whole installation is impressive and as I took pictures I wondered what the story is behind this scene. After much googling around, I found out that the statue is very famous in Hindu culture and religion. This legendary scene is called ‘Samudra Manthan’ in other words in English – the ‘Churning of the Ocean of Milk’.
