Morning Stroll in Old Town Porvoo and the 1-Day Tourists

On my last day in Porvoo I had a lavish breakfast of champions at the Onni boutique hotel I stayed and afterwards I went out for a late morning stroll. This is what greeted me outside: TOURISTS!

Because Porvoo is a very small place, not many tourists visting the country wishes to stay here. Instead many come on a one-day visit or group tour. Bus loads after bus loads of international tourists alight town carrying with them massive cameras hanging from their necks. I am sure they come in masses during summer.

As you can see, Old Town Porvoo is like Venice, Italy and the lovely villages of Santorini, Greece (Fira and Oia). During the day the place is busy with people and there are certain hour intervals where crowds literally gather in a particular street or area, but during the night, it is deserted. Well, I have seen it.

I wanted to see every bit of Porvoo before I leave town. I have already walked around the village on my first day but felt I need to go out and check the streets and alleyways less travelled. Follow me!

These are the Devil's Stairs (Ja Pirunportaat) which is a challenge to walk on because the stones are slippery. According to to an old tale, the devil himself had a hand in creating this rock formation that resembles a set of stairs. 

Porvoo is not a bike friendly place because of the big stones and hilly parts, although if the Dutch lives here I am sure it is not a problem. The Dutch will bike everywhere.

This was the other restaurant on the water that I wanted to visit but they were closed. I had dinner instead at Fryysarinranta Restaurant which was also very nice.

I am beginning to see a pattern with exclusive tour groups... if they are not pensioned off tourists, they are Asians.
