Our stay at Sunway Putra Hotel in Kuala Lumpur

This hotel reminds me of the USA, of my hotel stays in Las Vegas and Boston. Hotels annexed to malls with big parking spaces. The imperative word here is BIG and I don’t know its just the ambiance really, all the marble in the lobby and the styling of the hotel brings me back to North America. It’s hard to put a finger to it but when you have been to those places and those kinds of 5-star chain hotels fastened to shopping malls, you’d understand what I mean.

Sunway however was undergoing a hotel and mall renovation when we were there, unfortunately, they gave us the not yet renovated old room. The room was actually okay, and except for the flat screen TV you have the feeling that you got stuck in the 1980s.

We would have loved it if we had a huge window and not some box window overlooking to the next door neighbour’s windows. The outdoor pool though is nice with a majestic view of the metropolis. For the renovation inconvenience, the hotel offered an all-day free fruit juice drinks, coffee, tea and snacks in the swimming pool terrace.

We came with the car and luckily there is free parking in the building. Taxis are readily available at the lobby and at the back of the hotel.

Free newspaper delivered to your room every morning, much to the delight of my parents. Luckily, the papers were in English.

Our stay here was okay. I cannot complain, I mean there was free WIFI although of course it could have been better.

A very nice outdoor swimming pool, although a bit tacky with the columns. Why does it makes me think of the Las Vegas hotel scene here?

Note to Sunway: Kindly make use of the beautiful view of the city please by making it is easily viewable while lounging in the pool area because at the moment (well when we were there) guests can only see the plants and the spires of the tall buildings. Such a shame.

There were so many Arabs in Kuala Lumpur during our visit and all the Arabic women wore the same thing (chador) and colour (black). This is very interesting because the Muslim women in Malaysia rarely wear black, they usually wear flambouyant colours with lots of patterns in their dresses and mix matching it with their head scarves.
