Relaxing at the Boat Terrace of Porvoo: Porvoon Paahtimo Bar & Cafe

Before wrapping up my holiday in Porvoo, Finland, I visited this cafe with a boat terrace on the river. It is difficult to miss this cafe as it is located at the end of the picturesque red shore wooden houses beside the main bridge. From this bridge you can actually have the best view of the proposed UNESCO world heritage red shore wooden houses.

My flight back to Amsterdam is scheduled later in the afternoon and I have an hour or two before I take the bus to Helsinki Airport. I just wanted to sit down somewhere and enjoy the nice weather and Porvoo for the last time. Porvoon Paahtimo Bar & Cafe was just the right place to enjoy such day, at their boat terrace.

When your holiday is coming to an end what better way to spend the last day relaxed in a cafe sipping coffee or tea while enjoying the moment, right? It is also a great time to look back at the holiday, what I have done, where I have been, what I ate, what/who I have encountered and checking my camera a hundred times the lovely pictures (my memories!) that I took, and then flashing a huge smile every now and then. I am sure the people at the boat must have wondered what’s going with me, haha.

I tell you, it is a luxury to be able to end a holiday in a relaxed manner. My suggestion? Always plan well but leave some space for spontaneity and discovery as well.


Did I tell you that in Finland they always serve their coffee with a chocolate candy?


It was not a busy mid-afternoon and I took my seat of course at the boat terrace which I can gently feel move a bit on the water.

My friend Bubbles, whom I was travelling with in the Balkans, had a request that we stop over at Medjugorje. Bangkok, Thailand: The Story Behind the Impressive Serpent Statue at Suvarnabhumi Bangkok International Airport

If you fly out from the new Bangkok ‘Suvarnabhumi’ International Airport, the huge, colourful and impressive mythical statue popular in Thai and Indian culture, the 3-headed serpent Naga (his name Vasuki) in a spectacular tug-of-war scene with its mid-section body wrapped around a stone, which is actually a mountain, and Vishnu one of the supreme deities in Hindu is sitting on top, will greet you as you finish immigration and step inside the airport’s duty free shopping area. You just have to stop and be dazzled by it. The whole installation is impressive and as I took pictures I wondered what the story is behind this scene. After much googling around, I found out that the statue is very famous in Hindu culture and religion. This legendary scene is called ‘Samudra Manthan’ in other words in English – the ‘Churning of the Ocean of Milk’.
