FIFA (Football) World Cup 2014 Brasil in Corfu

The World Cup fever has taken the world and much of Greece as well after the country qualified for the next round from their win against Ivory Coast a few days ago (score 2-1). At the moment the Greeks are in high spirits! And we of course as well with the Netherlands ending as number 1 in their pool which has been dubbed as the "death pool".

As you might have noticed, our evenings, well some evenings actually were spent watching the football matches. It is really hard to ignore the World Cup because huge TV screens grace every corner in Corfu.

The recent 2-0 win of the Netherlands against Chile however was spent watching from a beach bar on my computer live streaming via a local Greek  TV channel. Long live WIFI =).

Below I took these pictures in a little bar cafe restaurant in Dassia called JOY'S (located inland and not on the main road) where we watched the Greece - Ivory Coast game. We were so entertained watching it because the locals were so loud, tensed and animated, haha. One guy sitting at the back of the cafe stood out because he always comes dashing towards the TV screen when Greece has an upper hand in the game. When Greece scored (twice) he went running to the front and jumping up and down. Funny as hell. Of course we cheered and supported for Greece =)


We started the football match with Greek coffee for moi and cappuccino for the Dutchman.


Followed by a Greek Mythos beer for the Dutchman and a Margarita cocktail for moi.


Dutchman had another round of Mythos beer and I went for a Metaxa, which is a Greek brandy.

Bangkok, Thailand: The Story Behind the Impressive Serpent Statue at Suvarnabhumi Bangkok International Airport

If you fly out from the new Bangkok ‘Suvarnabhumi’ International Airport, the huge, colourful and impressive mythical statue popular in Thai and Indian culture, the 3-headed serpent Naga (his name Vasuki) in a spectacular tug-of-war scene with its mid-section body wrapped around a stone, which is actually a mountain, and Vishnu one of the supreme deities in Hindu is sitting on top, will greet you as you finish immigration and step inside the airport’s duty free shopping area. Shanghai’s 5-Kilometer “Nanjing Road” is World’s Longest Shopping Street

For the traveller or tourist who is keen to shop and engage in the modern Shanghainese shopping lifestyle experience, the answer is a visit to Nanjing Road. I suggest multiple visits since this shopping street is 5-kilometers long! Shopping during travelling does not sit high up on my list. I do buy stuff but they are mostly a by-product of my travel activities. I do not travel to shop nor is it a travel activity. But I am always curious about shopping streets in large cities. I want to see what it looks like, what kind of stores they have, what products offer, perhaps there is a café on the corner street that I can sit and have a drink whilst I watch people go about with their shopping?
