More London Place & Riverside, Hilton, The Tower Bridge, The Onion and The Shard

A great mix of old and new: The Tower Bridge and the modern and cool City Hall aka 'The Onion'. By the way, there is also another building across the water named after a vegetable.

In London, I quite like the location in Southwark where I stayed last March. It is super cool and very modern. I stayed at the Hilton Tower Bridge on More London Place which is a development the city did, not too long ago.

I very much enjoyed walking around the More London Riverside area where the modern City Hall and the sunken amphitheatre called The Scoop are located. There are many offices, shops and restaurants with a view here. There is a nice square and a fountain as well. The waterfront area commands a lovely view of the Tower Bridge and offers a cosmopolitan skyline panorama of the City of London across the river. In the evening it is just stunning here.

I would love to come back and eat at Gauchos. I have to make sure to reserve a table in advance with a view of the River Thames, the City Hall and the Tower Bridge.

And oh, I would like to go up the Shard as well and have drinks at the Sushi Samba.


More London Place and that is the Hilton in front.


Unfortunately most of the rooms do not really have a great view. But I loved the bed. I slept very well here. The room is quite spacious as well and I could do the non-stop check out which I did.


Two Ruba at Hilton Tower Bridge is a lounge, bar and restaurant. Quite chic.

My friend Bubbles, whom I was travelling with in the Balkans, had a request that we stop over at Medjugorje. Bangkok, Thailand: The Story Behind the Impressive Serpent Statue at Suvarnabhumi Bangkok International Airport

If you fly out from the new Bangkok ‘Suvarnabhumi’ International Airport, the huge, colourful and impressive mythical statue popular in Thai and Indian culture, the 3-headed serpent Naga (his name Vasuki) in a spectacular tug-of-war scene with its mid-section body wrapped around a stone, which is actually a mountain, and Vishnu one of the supreme deities in Hindu is sitting on top, will greet you as you finish immigration and step inside the airport’s duty free shopping area. You just have to stop and be dazzled by it. The whole installation is impressive and as I took pictures I wondered what the story is behind this scene. After much googling around, I found out that the statue is very famous in Hindu culture and religion. This legendary scene is called ‘Samudra Manthan’ in other words in English – the ‘Churning of the Ocean of Milk’.
