Paxos Island (Greece): The Little White Beach in Gaios

Gaios is the capital of Paxos Island in the Ionian Sea. The island is part of the Ionian Group of Islands in Greece. Dutchman and I were here last year on a day trip from Corfu.

Just 5 minutes walk from the harbour you will find this little serene white beach. There are of course other (more stunning I assume) beaches in the island but you would have to drive out of town to get there. The beach is formed like a little bay and is both sandy and rocky.

This is the location of the beach, see Unnamed Road.

It is located at the end of the western part of the harbour and just behind the Statue of Georgios Anemogiannis, considered as one of the heros who helped deliver Greece from the Turks. He died in 1821 in the act of courage.

If you come here on a day trip and would prefer to sit down on a beach than at a terrace in the harbour, then this is the best place. Small, scenic, secluded and just a stone's throw away from the town and port. I think this is the only beach near the town.

I will post more pictures of the capital on my next post.

No sunbeds and parasol here though. It is bring your own, but there are also a few trees that can give some shade.

There is also a rock part of the beach.

The beach is behind the monument statue and the port.
