Kefalonia, Greece: Dinner in Charming Assos Village (Stuffed Peppers w/ Feta, Souvlaki, Grilled Octopus & Baklava)

Assos is a very pretty and idyllic village located in the north western part of Kefalonia. The town sits on top of a rocky peninsula and a horseshoe scenic bay harbour. It’s a small and romantic place. There is not much happening here. There is a small beach, a few restaurants, cafés, shops and some holiday apartments and villas. That’s it.

A very idyllic setting for a summer holiday dinner.

Because it is a long way back to our apartment in Leviathos, we decided to have an early dinner here in Assos. I picked the restaurant with the white chairs and tables on the harbour because the view from its outdoor terrace is just lovely. The food wasn’t something we were excited about but it was not too bad as well.

We ordered stuffed peppers with feta cheese and topped with bacon for our shared starter. Dutchman had a chicken souvlakia for his main and I had my favourite Greek dish, grilled octopus. For dessert we had baklava from the house. It was too sweet for me that I gave my share to the Dutchman. We then had coffee to seal the dinner.

While having dinner, we noticed that the restaurant across on the water on the shore was continuously full of patrons, whilst the restaurant we dined on the harbour, which, in our opinion has a much better setting, ambiance and view as well was not attracting guests. Perhaps the restaurant across had better food? Or was it the sun? The restaurant definitely had more sun exposure than the other restaurants on the bay. It really intrigued us, but oh well, perhaps we will never know.

Overall, we were quite happy with this dinner, mostly because of its location and view.

The view from our table. Beautiful.

The villages of Assos and its bay from the harbour.

Dutchman's chicken souvlaki with fries and side salad.

My main: Greek grilled octopus with fries and side salad.

The baklava dessert was too sweet for me. It was dripping honey.

I am better off with some espresso while Dutchman finishes off my baklava portion.

This is the other restaurant across which is quite full.
