Road Tripping Ile d’Orleans: Fresh Fruit (Strawberry) Stands

Everywhere you go in the island you will see these fresh fruit stands along the roads. They are all-pervading and the only thing I guess that changes through the months are the type of fruits sold by the farmers, since these of course depend on the season.


I was here in the beginning of October and it was the strawberry harvesting season. Earlier in the drive I saw a group of people harvesting strawberries in the village of Saint Laurent, very near to Saint Petronille.

Nevertheless I just cannot let this timely opportunity pass by. I need to buy myself a little basket of strawberries fresh from the farm producer itself. And I was quite glad I bought some as they were succulent and sweet. The fresh strawberries served as my snack for the island road trip. I ate the rest the next day at breakfast.

This is what I love about road tripping, you drive into the unknown without expectations and come across random cool stuff such as this fruit stand, among many other (hopefully positively surprising) things of course.

When you find youself in rustic Ile d’Orleans, do patronise the fresh fruit stands and buy something. It’s one of the charms of the island.

In French strawberries are called ‘fraises’. These are of very good quality, succulent, sweet and firm. They smelled so good as well. Instant car freshener =)

Bangkok, Thailand: The Story Behind the Impressive Serpent Statue at Suvarnabhumi Bangkok International Airport

If you fly out from the new Bangkok ‘Suvarnabhumi’ International Airport, the huge, colourful and impressive mythical statue popular in Thai and Indian culture, the 3-headed serpent Naga (his name Vasuki) in a spectacular tug-of-war scene with its mid-section body wrapped around a stone, which is actually a mountain, and Vishnu one of the supreme deities in Hindu is sitting on top, will greet you as you finish immigration and step inside the airport’s duty free shopping area. You just have to stop and be dazzled by it. The whole installation is impressive and as I took pictures I wondered what the story is behind this scene. After much googling around, I found out that the statue is very famous in Hindu culture and religion.
