Grand Massif Skiing Resort: Skiing to Morillon Village (French Alps)
On our second day of skiing in the Le Grand Massif in the French Alps, Dutchman and I went to Morillon Village located in the Massif side of the ski mountain resort.
I really like skiing from one ski village to another. It is not only fun but it gives me something new to look forward to. I loved being an adventurer and explorer in my own little way. I try to see every little adventure in my travels as a discovery, which may be inconsequential for others, but special for me.
From Flaine Foret we took the 8-seater Les Grands Vans chair lift to the top of the mountain. Les Grands Vans chair lift is the main access point to the Massif side of the mountain ski resort, to the villages of Morillon, Les Carroz and Samoens. From here we skied on several blue and red slopes to the direction of Morillon Village. The slope going to Morillon 1100m was a bit icy though. In fact we noticed quite several icy patches here. We thought that this is something typical for this particular slope as there is a reason why they have placed a snow canon, which was blowing snow the whole time.
Unfortunately, the slopes to Morillon did not lead us to the main Morillon village. We only managed to ski to Morillon 1100m as the route to the main village in the valley were temporarily closed.
Bummer. We were really eager to ski through the narrow valley of pine bedecked slopes, and I wanted to saunter along the village and find a cool outdoor terrace to sit on for a break. Oh well. The weather wasn’t really that great as well so I didn’t feel like I have lost much anyway.
Since we did not see much activity going on around in Morillon 1000m and there was not an outdoor terrace on sight that caught my fancy, Dutchman suggested that we go back up and ski further. Fine by me.
This is just one of the several slopes that were closed during the whole week we were there. I am pretty sure though that they have since opened the slopes as it is high season. One reviewer online left a comment, ‘Why are they charging so much money for the ski pass and not opening the whole ski resort?’

It is always best to wear something colourful so that it is easy to spot you on the snow. That is why I have a red ski jacket. I also have a lavender one which I rarely use for wintersport these days.
