Restaurant with a View in Lourdas (Kefalonia, Greece): La Mer Taverna
We spotted this restaurant on our first day in the island and we quickly elected to have our kick-off dinner here. This taverna is a good start for our summer holiday.
La Mer Taverna is quite popular in Lourdas so it is best to come here a bit early (19:00) or reserve a table in advance. We are however the types to just show up so it’s always a let’s see how it goes situation for us. Luckily they have a table available for two. I would have wanted to sit in the open area where you have direct views to the horizon but the table we were given was also fine.
The restaurant sits on the edge of the hilltop of Lourdas (upper village), with views of the area and down to the beach horizon. It is on the main street of the village where many accommodations, shops and restaurants are located. It is about a 7-minute drive with the scooter from our aparthotel in Moussata.
Seafood is always on top of my dining agenda during summer holidays. So for this first evening dinner of our holiday, I settled for large king prawns whilst the Dutchman went for the trusted spaghetti. I am not a pasta person so I rarely eat pasta while on holidays, although I cook and eat this at home because it is one of Dutchman’s favourite.
This was a great and classy place to eat with very good food.

We got seated at this area with the door/window panels closed, but still we have the view. We did not understand why they closed this area. Perhaps a customer requested it.
This is the area where we wanted to sit, on the terrace near the railings of course. The lounge chairs are for the bar.

Since we eat out every night for our 2-week summer holiday, we tend to just stick to ordering the main course. Sometimes we share a starter and other times a dessert. It helps a lot especially when you are watching your waistline, and of course, your wallet as well.
