Bangkok, Thailand: Asiatique The Riverfront Night Market

My mom loves shopping, and my Dad and I didn’t really mind indulging her when we were in Bangkok last November.

I don’t have a thing though with indoor shopping malls. I find them totally boring, and it’s the last place I want to be in when travelling. So after the little misunderstanding we’ve had with the travel agent guy where we booked our trip to the Floating Market, and wherein he recommended that we visit Central which is a luxury shopping mall that we didn’t like, I made sure to research better shopping areas for us to visit.

I really can do other stuff in Bangkok than shopping, but alright, this is for my mom.

So I discovered Asiatique The Riverfront Night Market while checking out the Bangkok map. It is located south of the Chao Phraya River and is one of the stops of the river boat service. We did not take the boat to get here though, instead, we hailed a cab which took us an hour of crazy zigzag traffic through Bangkok. I even managed to sleep in the cab, haha.

Asiatique is like Chatuchak Market on steroids. You will find similar goods sold in many cheap outdoor markets in Thailand here, but the difference with Asiatique is that the stalls are housed in a much nicer outdoor style shopping market. Nothing like a static indoor shopping mall experience though. It is an open, lively, very easygoing and fun place.

In addition, there’s entertainment, lots of activities, local events happening and loads of outdoor bar and dining scene here. It’s a lifestyle complex. Like I said, it is your usual outdoor market but just on steroids!

Thus, shopping is just one of the things to do in Asiatique. Although I have to admit that I was able to shop a great deal of clothes here because they were all so darn cheap!? I mean, you just can’t say no to that. Highly recommended.

We are waiting on the sidelines for my mom who is busy shopping, haha. Right, I did shop too, so I am not innocent myself.

Bumper cars with a little race route.

Asiatique is a busy place at night, visited by a lot of locals, as well as tourists.
