Downtown Montreal: Rue St-Catherine O Scenes

This is a photo essay of Downtown Montreal taken on the busy shopping street—Saint Catherine.

Downtown Montreal is located west of Old Montreal (Vieux Montreal) and Rue Saint Antoine borders is the demarcation street between the two city centre boroughs. Downtown Montreal is the modern area of the city with many towering skyscrapers, small green park squares and busy vehicular traffic.

For tourists, Downtown Montreal is a place to check out some art museums and theatre shows at Place des Arts and real shopping at Rue Ste-Catherine O (St. Catherine Street West). One can get to the underground city for more shopping choices from this street. There are also quite a number of outdoor cafes and restaurants on this street.

The city’s Chinatown is also located here in Downtown Montreal. A great alternative for late night eating when cafes and restaurants have closed.

In summary, Downtown Montreal is definitely recommended to check out if you have had enough of Old Montreal area and have an extra day in the city.

The marked in red is Downtown Montreal.

St. George's Anglican Church in the middle of the urban forest while a squirrel run away with a nut across the green park.

This is near Victoria Square.

Main shopping street of the city - Saint Catherine West (Rue Ste-Catherine O).

Tall office buildings and commercial establishments in Downtown Montreal.

Showing off some serious gear here.

Some sleazy entertainment on Saint Catherine Street.

Christ Church Cathedral, a beautiful worship building. Religion is quite alive in Canada.

A pretty building - Compagnie de la Baie d'Hudson (The Hudson's Bay Company), one of the large (Canadian) retail companies in the world which was founded in 1670 in London.

St. James United Church. Lots of churches here in Montreal.

Your Montreal parking metre. I never dared parking on the street here in Downtown Montreal.

The fountains at Place des Festivals.

We wanted to sit here for drinks but the waiter told us it is strictly dinner time. My niece and I had other ideas for dinner so we retreated a block away and sat out in the outdoor terrace of Starbucks.

Just drinks here at Starbucks. No coffee for me but rootbeer =). Across the street you can see Place des Arts.
