Alpe d’Huez, French Alps: La Plage des Neiges Bar Restaurant
It’s getting cold these days. Autumn is slowly kicking in here in the Netherlands and sooner or later it will be winter, and then it’s time to go skiing again!
Obviously, not in the Netherlands, but in the Alps.
Last winter, which was January of this year, Dutchman and I booked a chalet accommodation in a small ski village resort in the French Alps called Vaujany. The ski village has a humongous cable car that can carry more than 100 people to the L'Alpette 2050 mountain top. From here you can ski down to Oz en Oisans and take the connecting lifts to a bigger skiing terrain, the famous Alpe d’Huez Grand Domaine Ski Resort.
Alpe d’Huez is also one of the cycling legs with breathtaking views of Tour de France.
So Dutchman and I did a number of nice skiing runs to Alpe d’Huez. Compared to other ski town resorts we have been to, Alpe d’Huez is huge. We’ve wanted to spend more time checking out the village but the journey to and fro Vaujany is something we have to take into consideration with. The connecting lifts close at a certain time so we have to be always mindful of the time and the distances. If we miss the connection, we have no other choice but to ski back down to Alpe d’Huez town and take the bus to a nearby village and from there order a taxi to Vaujany. Taxis here are not cheap.

I also want to share a nice find in Alpe d’Huez, a nice bar-restaurant on the slopes not too far away from town. Non-skiers can definitely come here. It is called, ‘La Plage des Neiges’. The location and ambience are really cool, it even has an exclusive outdoor bubble/globe nook on the terrace.
On the day we visited, the weather was a bit gloomy. No sun, which means people will prefer to sit indoors than outside on the terrace. When the sun is shining in the mountains, even amidst the snow and ice, believe it or not, you need sunscreen because you can get burned.
When we stepped inside the bar restaurant it was humming with activity and lots of people. The wait staff were on their heels busy attending to guests. To make our lives easier, we decided to just order some drinks and stay at the bar. For sure, this place is one of the popular ones in Alpe d’Huez.
Dutchman and I are always keen on checking out nice terraces on the slopes during our winstersport holiday. They enrich the total skiing holiday experience, that's for sure.

It was very busy inside the bar restaurant! No available place to sit.
So we settled at the bar and just bought drinks.
