Auckland City Views from the Sky Tower

After all that I have seen and done on my first day in Auckland downtown city center, I was finally ready to visit the Sky Tower for the 360-degree city views.

I have reserved this visit to be at the end of the day because I want to see a bit of the twilight transition, although I wasn't planning to stay here until it gets dark. I have a dinner appointment with sisterJ and Myrhh at the Britomart which I am very much looking forward to.

The Sky Tower is open 365 days a year, weather permitting, from 09:00 to 22:00.

Firstly, is it just me? Because there is just something about views, and I mean panoramic city views...

For a vast majority of my life, well I am 48 now to be exact, I have lived in a high rise condominium and apartment, back in the Philippines many moons ago and in the Netherlands. So I have gotten used to having sweeping city views every single day. Maybe because Dutchman and I didn't have any children, we have never really thought of living in a house with a garden, until lately. We have bought this house though for other reasons but the consolation we have with this house is that it is facing a vast green view and a lake nearby. Nonetheless, we will be missing the views of this apartment. Who knows, in 15 years time, we might go back to high-rise apartment living?

Having views at home is also very conducive to thinking and reflecting on our lives. Don't you think? There's something about a panoramic view that calms our senses and makes us step back and ruminate about what's important to our lives at that particular moment. Perhaps it is the element of being in the now, in the present, coupled with the view that is showing the horizon, that could easily suggest the prospect of the future, but also of the past.

Here in Auckland, I couldn't let my time in the city pass without visiting the Sky Tower. I must see Auckland from above!

The visit went pretty easy. There were no long queues and there were in fact not that many people there. I remember visiting the Pearl Tower in Shanghai just a few days from this visit and that was quite hectic. Here at the Sky Tower in Auckland, you have the views almost all to yourself. It's a great place to do selfie shots without having to worry about crowds. Unfortunately, I didn't manage to get a selfie of myself because I simply forgot! Can you imagine that?

Anyway, as I was enjoying the 360-degree panoramic views, I can only think back and say that I have had no regrets so far with how life has become for me. I am glad I am able to choose my life. And I am glad that I have a good one.
