Corfu, Greece: Agios Georgios North Beach and Chilling Out at Katoi Bar

Our ideal afternoon scenario whilst holidaying in the Greek Islands would be going for a slow scooter ride, exploring the island and checking out a charming village or two. Afterwards we’d move on to searching for a beach area where we can enjoy a little snack in a traditional taverna, and then dip in the water and relax on a sunbed with parasol until the sun sets.

Agios Georgios has a big beach area.

Most of the times, this ideal afternoon scenario would go as planned. Perhaps because the Greek Islands suits our taste so we usually bump into a nice village and then end up discovering a cool taverna and beach. But there are some days as well, although they are far and few in between, that we just could not find a place that clicked with us. I am talking here though about the beach situation.

For this particular afternoon, we have already hit Agios Stefanos NW and Arillas beach areas, but found the places less appealing. We are mostly looking for the ‘cosy’ factor. We want to see inviting and comfortable tavernas and lounges on the beach. We’d love to see character to a beach!

So we drove to the next beach on the map: Agios Georgios North on the western coast of Corfu Island just below the 2 beaches we have earlier visited. Do take note though that there is another Agios Gordios beach (notice the difference in spelling) in the mid-south of the island, also along the western coast.

We were tired from driving around and just want to settle down to one spot. Although we didn’t fancy Agios Georgios that much, we thought it was better than the two other beaches we have been to. There is also a nice trattoria here called Katoi, located just on the curve from the entrance road. This is perhaps one of the best places on the beach to sit and relax with a nice cold of something. They have really nice soft comfy chairs.

We thought about spending the rest of the afternoon here at Agios Georgios but after an hour hanging out at Katoi Bar we decided to just go back to town, back to our apartment to chill out. There is a swimming pool there anyway and we befriended a few Dutch couples who loves a lively conversation or two.

We noticed as well that the area of Agios Georgios North is mostly frequented by holidaymakers from Germany and the Nordic countries.

We first went to Agios Stefanos, then Arillas and afterwards, Agios Georgios. To zoom in and out just click on the + and - signs on the lower right hand.

To get to the beach you first pass through the village and resort apartments. 

I love these straw beach parasols. It gives more personality to the beach.

Naturally, you can bring your own parasol as well. Dutchman and I are too lazy to do this. You don't want to bring this as extra baggage in your flight right? And it is a hassle as well to bring the stuff with you on a scooter. When you get old, the rules of the game changes. You just want comfort and ease.

We first explored the beach boulevard up to the end part of the beach where the road stops.

We were so glad to have found this trattoria called 'Katoi Bar' (or Trattoria Katoi).

Katoi Bar is perhaps the best place to chill out during the day in Agios Georgios North. I always love a nice Gelato cone of lemon and pistacchio or Greek yoghurt with honey and walnuts on a very hot afternoon.

I see myself in these kids when I was young.

Those wooden planks on the beach are heaven sent really. Sometimes you forget that the sands are scorching hot. Ouch!

The waves in the beaches along the western coast are rougher.
