The Village of Saint-Jean-de-l’Île-d’Orléans | Quebec, Canada

The picturesque Île d'Orléans has 6 villages, all of them equally quaint and pastoral. I was on a day road trip here from Quebec City with my rental car and was driving around the island. I love driving. It makes me relaxed, and it gives me happy feelings =)

I checked out Sainte-Petronille and Saint-Laurent villages where I saw a strawberry harvest in action. Then as I was driving to Saint-Jean I dropped by a fruit stand along the road to buy a box of fresh strawberries. They are great for snacking and I can eat the rest the next day for breakfast.

In Saint-Jean I had a lovely lobster roll sandwich and cider lunch at Resto de la Plage. The ambiance of the restaurant however had more points than the lobster roll sandwich, but the cider was something I have enjoyed very much. I even asked for a second glass. It was tempting to have a third one but helaas I am driving.

I also manage to walk around in some parts of Saint-Jean and took some pictures. The village is very quiet. It is the perfect place for people who want some peace of mind, some rest and relaxation on a weekend for example. Just driving through the villages and looking at the so pretty and colourful countryside houses is therapy already.

Speaking of which, driving on the Chemin Royal and through the villages felt like a scene in The Truman Show where the lawns are spic ‘n span with nicely tended flower beds and the houses seem to be always newly painted. There’s this notion that every house here is on display. Well, I quite like it.

This is where Saint-Jean is located in the Île d'Orléans map. Simply zoom it in and out. It takes 15 minutes from Quebec City to reach Île d'Orléans.

Many houses here are on the beach. Would have been very nice to wake up and go out to your balcony with the beach as the first thing you see.

A nicely trimmed lawn and well maintained pretty house in the village of Saint-Jean. You see lots of this here on this island.

You would not have thought that this is a restaurant, bakery and cafe. La boulange in Saint-Jean. It gets busy here in the summer when people are eating outside in the terrace.

A charming and elegant country house now converted into a B&B. So many houses like this on the island if you prefer to stay here for the evening.
