A Christian Church in Istanbul: Church of St. Anthony of Padua

When I was in Istanbul last year I did not expect to find a beautiful Christian Church, well except for the Hagia Sofia, that would rival the churches in Europe.

I found the Church of St. Anthony of Padua by chance when I had lunch at the 360 Istanbul. The club restaurant in Beyoglu has 360-degree view of the Bosphorus Strait and Fatih, the city's old historical centre, as well as Beyoglu, the hilly and trendy suburb where Istanbulites hang out, be it for shopping, entertainment or protesting against its government in Taksim Square. While enjoying the beautiful views in the terrace of the club restaurant I saw the church which was located just below the building.

When I finished lunch and was back on Istiklal Street, I knew where to go next. To visit the Church of St. Anthony of Padua. The Venetian Neo-Gothic architectural style church was built by the local Italian community of Istanbul. It has a very beautiful facade and because this is a predominantly Muslim country, the church is made more special.

The church is located in the busy shopping street of Istiklal in Beyoglu.

My friend Bubbles, whom I was travelling with in the Balkans, had a request that we stop over at Medjugorje. Bangkok, Thailand: The Story Behind the Impressive Serpent Statue at Suvarnabhumi Bangkok International Airport

If you fly out from the new Bangkok ‘Suvarnabhumi’ International Airport, the huge, colourful and impressive mythical statue popular in Thai and Indian culture, the 3-headed serpent Naga (his name Vasuki) in a spectacular tug-of-war scene with its mid-section body wrapped around a stone, which is actually a mountain, and Vishnu one of the supreme deities in Hindu is sitting on top, will greet you as you finish immigration and step inside the airport’s duty free shopping area. You just have to stop and be dazzled by it. The whole installation is impressive and as I took pictures I wondered what the story is behind this scene. After much googling around, I found out that the statue is very famous in Hindu culture and religion.
