What’s the deal with Bukit Bintang in Kuala Lumpur? (Shopping)
At our hotel in Kuala Lumpur (Sunway Putra Hotel), there were free shuttle buses going to Bukit Bintang. It piqued my interest because what is there to see and do in Bukit Bintang? Then I realised—SHOPPING MALLS.
Bukit Bintang is Shopping
When I am travelling I tend to shy away from shopping malls unless (a) I need to go there to buy something I really need. (b) I am going to a place where incidentally is located in a shopping mall such as during my trip to Tallinn, Estonia, this cool Komeet Café with a nice view and terrace is located inside a shopping mall, and well, I ended up shopping as well. (c) the place doesn’t have any other attraction, but then again, I probably wouldn’t have come in the first place.
But the truth and fact remains that shopping is a big tourist activity. So anyway, we decided to join forces and swing by for an afternoon tea and coffee. My mom wanted to shop a little bit as well and we have time so might as well indeed visit Bukit Bintang.
The malls here are massive. We went to Farenheit 88 and Pavilion. Perhaps I am really getting old because I do not see the excitement of exploring a hundred shops anymore. It is a daunting task in my book. Am I the only one who think/feel like this?
Truthfully, I get tired with shopping. Do not get me wrong, I do shop, its just that it is not a priority. There are rare moments when I am in an ecstatic I-want-to-go-shopping-mood and that is usually because I know what I want to buy. Most of my personal shopping moments happen on the side, whilst travelling, visiting a new place, going for a café date, passing by a store while doing errands, these kinds of situations. Nothing is planned nor do I set money aside to buy something.
I feel lucky though that I can buy whatever I want, however, I do not seek a lot of material things. But I tell you that it is such a liberating feeling to pass by an intimidating shop, admire a very expensive item and decide not to buy it, not because you cannot afford it, but because you just don’t want it.

We had our afternoon snack at this Lebanese café restaurant in a glass pavilion in Farenheit 88 along the main road. We have a nice view and location and we can see all the shoppers and passers-by.
