Pictures of Munich, Germany

Because it is October, I would like to start the month with a post dedicated to Octoberfest: MUNICH. And you thought it was beer huh.

I have not been to Octoberfest and it is not something I would crave to go to anyway. I think I would feel old going to a beer and party event. I mean the whole city is partying each night with loud kids dressed in dirndl and lederhosen and throwing up on street gutters. Not a pretty sight to me but then again I am a middle aged woman, so ignore me. I am sure it sounds cool when you are 20 something =)

Nevertheless, it is October and Germany is in the map so let me share my last Munich pictures from my trip to the city last year.

In Munchen, as it is locally called, I visited the Schrannenhalle food market, went to the Hofbrauhaus (a traditional beer house) and got picked up by a kid half my age, enjoyed the amazing street performances, hanged out at the Marienplatz, had dinner at the Ratskeller (town hall cellar restaurant) and strolled the Hofgarten (garden park).

I stayed in a nearby suburb called Baierbrunn in a Bavarian style inn and did side trips to Hohenschwangau and Salzburg, Austria.

And these are the rest of my pictures of Munich:

The entrance to the Residenz on the left, the former royal palace of the Bavarian monarchs.

Typical street in Munich with tram rails.

Dainty modern version of the Dirndl Bavarian dress.

Ivy covered restaurant in the center.

Germany is all about meat and this is a specialty: grilled pork knuckles (haxen). They are marinated 24 hours prior to grilling.

The National Theatre of Munich.

Biergartens (beer gardens) are popular in Munich.

Near Marienplatz. Lots of shopping opportunities here.

Beer houses are in every corner in Munich.

People jamming at the Max-Joseph Platz.

Dirndl dresses and lederhosen. Tourists (including local tourists from other regions in Germany) dress up in this getup when visiting Munich, especially during Octoberfest.

This is one of the beautiful old buildings in the city. Just look at the facade, those sculptures.

If you are in Munich this October, enjoy the festival!
