Kefalonia, Greece: Skala Beach

Skala Beach is located on the south eastern part of Kefalonia Island (west from mainland Greece on the Ionian Sea). It’s 40 minutes with the car from Moussata where we were based, but because we have a scooter, it usually takes us about 50 minutes or more to get here.

Dutchman and I have been here twice in Skala. The first time we were here we spent a lazy afternoon at the Metaxa Beach Bar. The second time was during our boat trip to nearby Ithaca Island.

They say that Skala is the second largest touristy beach resort in Kefalonia, with Lassi located in the other end of the island near the capital Argostoli, being the biggest and busiest. Skala is one large stretch of sandy beach with a sea of sunbeds and parasols. You will not run out here of a sunbed + parasol to grab. There is enough on offer.

The owner of the scooter rental company was not quite enamoured when we she knew we were going to Skala. She thinks it’s a place that bids nothing except beach, sun, drinking and brainless shallow tourism. She did tipped us about Kateleios Bay which we were thankful.

Now Dutchman and I love to combine both worlds. We love to check out culture and the village ambiance. Well mostly me though while the Dutchman follows me around because he has no choice? Haha. At the same time we both love to chill out on the beach. You know, basically doing nothing much. A brainless afternoon so to speak. We know for sure that Skala Beach is perfect for this.

We need to set our brains to idle mode from time to time during the summer holiday as well =)

There are lots of sunbeds + parasols for rent here.

There are cruises leaving Skala to other parts of the island, as well to other neighbouring islands such as Zante (Zakynthos, which we have been to several years back) and Ithaca (which we went to for this trip).

I wanted to come back and eat at this boat restaurant, but we never managed to do it.

This is one of the chic resorts in Skala.

Perfect blue weather on the beach. Peak season arrived a week later.

You can bring your own parasol as well and camp anywhere you like.
